Every comprehensive school head in Britain will get an additional 50,000 in April 2003 to help them run their schools, with another 15,000 the year after that.

Fact File
Why announce things now?
The announcement is called a Spending Review
It says how much money the government will spend over the next three years

The rest is worked out every year
Some of those schools will be given even more money so they can attract really good teachers.

The Chancellor also said a scheme to pay kids aged between 16 and 19 is going to be extended to cover the whole of England.

He revealed the total money the government will spend on education will increase by 12.8bn in England, and 15bn across the whole of the UK.
