Kids put MPs on the spot
Updated 11 July 2002, 18.25
The Speaker of the Commons and Press Packs' Kate

MPs have faced a grilling after school kids from all over the country travelled to Westminster to quiz them.

They asked them loads of questions, including some about cannabis, fox hunting and ID cards.

The special event at the Houses of Parliament was hosted by Channel 4 newsreader Brigid Nzekwu.

For the first time ever kids' schoolwork was displayed in Westminster Hall which is where the Queen Mum's coffin lay in state.

It was part of a new project called MPs in schools.

Kyle and a PC
The idea behind the scheme is to persuade more MPs to go and visit kids in their classrooms to see what school is like.

That will give you the chance to ask them in person what they are doing about things that you think are important.

He asked her about the Government's response to 11 September, before later Kyle returned the favour by visiting her at the house of Commons.

At the House of Commons Hilary explained that MPs value young peoples' views because they are the voters of the future.
