  'Science is boring' say MPs
Updated 11 July 2002, 08.11

Science lessons for teenagers are so boring they put kids off the subject for life, according to a group of politicians.

They claim that GCSE Science is based on learning facts of little use, and practical work is "tedious and dull".

The MPs want science in schools to be changed so it reflects science that you would meet in everyday life.

'Completely pointless'

They found that science subjects between the ages of 11-14 had already been covered and that inevitably led it to be boring.

Students also didn't get a chance to debate interesting subjects that were controversial, like human cloning.

One MP said science should be the most exciting subject for pupils but they have to "slog through practical exercises which are completely pointless".
