Updated 10 May 2002, 07.36
Boy doing his homework
Kids are earning up to £1,200 a year just by helping their parents around the house, researchers reckon.

The best job is helping to clean the house, with parents paying an average of £2.77 a time.

Loading and unloading the dishwasher is a money-spinner too, earning kids around £2.52 a time.

But some of you even demand dosh for doing your own homework!

Boys get more

Other top paid jobs include:

  • Washing the car - £2.30
  • Cleaning pet's cage - £1.92
  • Doing homework - £1.02
  • Making the bed - £0.76

But boys do much better than girls. Boys reported getting more money than girls in eight of the nine most popular household chores.

The biggest difference was unloading the dishwasher - with boys getting an average of £5.10 and girls getting a measly £1!

The most common job kids do is helping to set the table - but hardly any of you get paid for doing that, the survey by Abbey National showed.
