Potter Book Five may not appear 'til 2003
Updated 09 May 2002, 21.44

The long-awaited fifth Harry Potter book could be further away than fans feared.

JK Rowling has never promised a release date, but many people hoped that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix would hit bookshelves this summer.

But now her publishers say it might not appear 'til next year.

Her American publishers, Scholastic, will only say that they expect it sometime before June 2003.

Author JK Rowling is still writing the long-awaited fifth book.

Her spokeswoman told us: "There is no deadline and there never was. She doesn't have writer's block and she is busy writing the book at the moment."

And UK publishers Bloomsbury said JK Rowling was "happily writing" Order of the Phoenix.

"As soon as we have the completed manuscript we will announce a publication date," said a spokeswoman.

"We are looking forward to it as much as Harry Potter fans."

Bloomsbury said in March that an ideal release date would be "early autumn 2002".

Bookshops around the country have already been flooded with calls from people eager to read the next adventure.

Online retailer Amazon.com has even stopped taking orders until they know more about the release date.

Lets just hope it's worth the wait!
