Many parents say yes to term-time holidays
Updated 03 May 2002, 15.28
Too many kids are going on holiday in term time
Almost half of all parents say they would take their kids out of school to go on holiday during term time.

But a similar number of parents, 43%, thought it was wrong that some children missed school to be taken on holiday with their parents.

The survey for the government found that almost all parents thought it was extremely important that children went to school regularly.

The government is trying to stop parents taking their children out of school during term time, because they think it is bad for their education.

Money saver

They were surprised in a recent check on kids missing school that four out of five were out with an adult, often one of their parents.

One of the main reasons parents take their children on holiday during term time is because it's much cheaper than in the school holidays.
