  Parents of teens should 'loosen up'

Parents are being told to chill out when their teenagers start behaving badly.

The advice comes from an American expert who's looked at lots of studies on how hard it is to go from being a child to a teenager.

Mood swings and being really sulky are part of becoming a teenager but can make things hard for the whole family.

'No yelling'

So Dr Rae Simpson says parents should back off a bit but still have clear family rules.

She says not being too strict, not yelling and making sure everyone is communicating are good ideas.

She warns too much discipline can make teenagers rebel even more.
