Kids want 'prize' for eating healthy food
Updated 27 February 2002, 15.35
Children eating at school
The best way to get you to eat healthy food is by 'bribing' you with a free gift or toy.

According to a survey, children reckon they don't mind eating fruit and veggies as long as they get something in return.

Lots of the kids asked also said they'd be more likely to eat something if it was advertised on TV, or if a film or cartoon character was linked to it.

Why celery is 'fun'

Most young children do understand why it's important to eat healthy nosh, even if they don't really like doing it, the survey showed.

This is good news as there's been lots of stories about children getting fatter and more unhealthy lately. A recent study revealed a quarter of kids eat sweet and crisps for breakfast.

Most kids said they enjoyed cooking at home and they liked eating 'different' foods like Chinese and Indian.

You also like foods which are fun to eat - even celery, which one girl said could be peeled off in strips "like cheese straws".
