Boy's teeth rotted by sweet drinks
Updated 15 January 2002, 16.43
Billy Hayes whose teeth have rotted from sweet drinks
A five-year-old boy has had 10 teeth taken out because he drinks too many sweet drinks.

Billy Hayes, from Manchester, was even given the sugary drink Vimto in a bottle as a baby, instead of milk.

And at night his mum, Sally, often sent him to bed with a glass of coke and a bar of chocolate.

Dentists' warning

Billy's teeth started to rot even before they had come through, and he now has just eight teeth left.

His mum said she didn't know sweet drinks could do so much damage.

Dentists have now warned kids and their parents about the dangers of sugary drinks, and said many more children could soon be in the same situation.
