  Fuss over Queen's picture
Updated 21 December 2001, 15.42

A new painting of the Queen has caused a huge fuss as some people say it makes her look absolutely awful!

The portrait was painted by Lucian Freud, who is often called Britain's greatest living painter. He's known for his realistic and less than flattering works.

But an art expert in the Times newspaper says it makes the royal's neck look like that of a rugby player.

'Hang it in the toilet'

And the Sun newspaper says it's so bad it should be hung in the royal toilet!

But the Head of the National Portrait Gallery says it's "thought-provoking" and another expert says it's "brave and honest."

Although she does appear to look quite cross in the picture, the Queen herself hasn't said whether she likes it or not.

But the man in charge of the collection of royal paintings says it's "a wonderful addition."
