Updated 07 December 2001, 15.20

Children have had a chance to tell adults just how special they are to them.

The ChildLine awards saw 80-year-old teacher Tony Mason and youth club organiser Kim Brown win the joint top award for their dedication to children.

Vikki Geirge who nominated Tony Mason
Mr Mason's been teaching for 60 years and still tutors children now. And he doesn't charge for it!

He was nominated by 16-year-old Vikki George whom he taught when she became ill and couldn't go to school.

'Can't thank him enough'

With his help she got six GCSE's and says: "I can't thank him enough for what he's done for me."

Kim Brown, a youth worker from Leicestershire started up a youth centre when she realised local teenagers didn't have anywhere to go and were getting into trouble.

'We're all so proud'

She's helped them to start fundraising for charities and Clare Hartley who nominated her said:

"We are all so proud of ourselves. Kim has shown us we can do it for ourselves."

Four other adults were picked out for special praise:

Dorothy Walker who runs a Young Carers club, foster-mum Betty Boston and Jack and Jeanette Wilkinson who've fostered 55 children in 18 years.
