This year two Newsround Press Packers were asked to be on the judging panel. Harry and Annalisa read a huge number of books before coming up with just four to make the top list.

The winners of each category then compete for the overall 'Best Book' prize, which is worth 25,000.

The books shortlisted for the children's prize are:

  • Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
  • Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson
  • The Lady and the Squire by Terry Jones
