Brosnan said he thought several actors could play the part but fellow Irishman Colin Farrell would be the best.
"I'll give it to Colin Farrell. He'll eat the head off them all," he said at the Irish Film and TV Awards.
Brosnan has played Bond in the last four films, but it's not clear if he'll play the super-spy in the next one.
Change of heart
At the time the Brosnan said Farrell was "a great actor but I don't think he's right for Bond."
Although the new film has not yet been cast, the script is ready and producers hope to release the film sometime in 2006.
