An unknown US actor is going to become one of the best-known actors in the world after being cast as Superman.
Brandon Routh, 25, will play the Man of Steel in a new film based on the comics published by DC.
The film is made by Warner Brothers, who make the Harry Potter films too, and will be directed by Bryan Singer who made the X-Men films.
Filming is expected to begin in 2005 and the movie is expected to be in cinemas in the summer of 2006.
Four Superman films have been made already starring Christopher Reeve - who died earlier in October - as the main character.

Director Singer said: "Brandon is an extremely fine actor who possesses the physical qualifications of Clark Kent/Superman. But he also embodies the legacy and history of this character in a way that makes me certain he's the right choice."
Loads of movies based on comic books have been made in recent years, including two X-Men films, two Spider-Man movies, The Hulk and the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Warners are also making a film based on another hugely popular DC character, Batman, and that is due in cinemas in summer 2005.
