Big US opening weekend for Potter
Updated 07 June 2004, 08.32
Potter has sold loads of tickets in the US
US Potter fans proved just as keen as those in the UK to see The Prisoner of Azkaban, spending $92.65m (£50.21m) on tickets in its first three days there.

That's more than either of the first two films, and the third biggest opening weekend ever in the US, behind Shrek 2 and the first Spider-Man film.

Shrek 2 has now made $313.6m (£170m) in just three weeks, and looks set to be the biggest animated film ever.

It's only $26.1m (£14.14m) behind the current record holder Finding Nemo.

The figures were released by Warner Brothers, the company who made the film.

The first Potter film made $90.3m in its opening weekend, a year before the Chamber of Secrets opened with $88.4m.

The fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, has already started filming, with Mike Newell directing.

It's expected to be in cinemas in November 2005.
