  Cinemas battling Potter pirates
Updated 31 May 2004, 12.33
The new Harry Potter film is a target for pirates
Cinema bosses are hoping to keep people trying to pirate the new Potter film in the dark with night-vision goggles.

Warner Brothers, who made the film, have given the special goggles to the cinemas so ushers can search for people trying to illegally record the film.

Ushers have been told to watch the people watching the film for all 242 minutes that it is on screen.

Pirate versions of the first two films were on sale after they were released and Warners don't want that repeated.

Jamie Graham, who manages a Vue complex in Ellesmere, central England said: "I have been working in the cinema industry for ten years and I have never heard of anything like this before."

He added his cinema has sold 6,500 tickets for the film on the first day it was released, with some screenings starting before 8am.

"Our ushers are using the goggles in every screening to check nobody is making any illegal recordings. If anybody is caught then they will be reported to the police," Graham said.
