  Newsround's Rachel reports from Cannes
Updated 15 May 2004, 14.56
Cannes - location of one of the world's most glamorous film events
The Cannes Film Festival is pretty much the most important event in the movie calendar - and Newsround presenter Rachel Gibson was there to check out the action. Here's her report...

Cannes is a beautiful town in the south of France right on the coast with gorgeous beaches and cafes and during the festival the streets are jammed with celebs, star spotters, movie makers, journalists and photographers in dinner jackets trying to slip past security!

I spent the morning trying to get all my pieces to camera filmed; rushing from the beach full of sunbathers to the Palais, where the movies are shown, up to the Croisette, where very suntanned ladies carry tiny dogs in their handbags, and back to the beach again.

But we finally got it all done and, with sunburnt shoulders, I jumped on a bus with a crowd of other journalists heading for one of the most exclusive hotels on the Riviera - the Hotel Du Cap - to interview the cast of Shrek 2.

It was amazing - lots of security, and all the interviews took place in beach huts dotted along the cliff tops with the glittering sea in the background.

I had a lot of fun interviewing the stars; Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers were really friendly, but Eddie Murphy, who does the voice of Donkey, seemed pretty tired.

It's not surprising - the interviews were five minutes long and the cast had to do about 30 interviews each, with most of the journalists asking them the same questions over and over again.

But it was still pretty glamorous with the sun shining, amazing cakes and juices laid on for us, lots of make-up artists rushing around powdering the stars, and one of the journalists reckoned she saw Justin Timberlake in the hotel reception!

At the end of the interviews I had to send all my footage back to BBC Television Centre in London via a satellite feed.

The office I sent them from was on the third floor of a building opposite the Palais. Just before I sat down to start the feed I heard loads of clapping and shouting outside and ran out on to the balcony to see Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston and Orlando Bloom on the red carpet beneath us!

It was definitely the most exciting story I've ever covered for Newsround.
