  Shock award win for Johnny Depp

 Johnny Depp is nominated for an Oscar
Johnny Depp's chances of winning a best actor award at the Oscars have been boosted at another awards night.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star was named best actor at the Screen Actors' Guild awards in the US.

The winners are voted for by actors, and with 22% of the Oscar votes coming from film actors, Johnny is now being tipped for a surprise Oscar win.

Actors in more serious roles normally win the big awards, so a win for Captain Jack Sparrow is bit of a shock.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King picked up yet another award at the ceremony, winning for the best cast in a film.

Afterwards John Rhys-Davies, who plays Gimli and Treebeard, said: "At the risk of sounding immodest, we deserved this award. This is the most enormous undertaking in film history."

The Oscars happen in the US on Sunday 29 February.
