The third Lord of the Rings film, The Return of the King, has become the third most successful film of all time.
Peter Jackson's epic flick has made $942.7m (£517.9m) worldwide, and is expected to top $1bn after it is released in Japan on 14 February.
Only 1997's Titanic and 2001's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone have taken more cash at the box office.
ROTK is up for 11 Oscars at this year's Academy Awards, including best picture and best director for Jackson.
