Big win for LOTR at Golden Globes
Updated 26 January 2004, 08.07
Peter Jackson picks up his award
The Return of the King has won four awards at the Golden Globes, including the top prize for best film.

The third and final instalment of the Rings trilogy also picked up best director, as well as musical awards for the best score and the best song.

ROTK is the first of the Rings films to be honoured with a Golden Globe, and also the first fantasy film to win one.

The Golden Globes are seen as a good way of predicting who'll do well at the Oscars next month.

The Office surprise

Although ROTK had been hotly tipped to win there were some surprises.

One of those was British comedy The Office . It won best comedy and its star Ricky Gervais was named best actor in TV comedy or musical.

It's the first time a UK actor has won a TV comedy acting award at the Globes, and The Office is the first British programme to win best comedy.

Many people were surprised by this as series is not yet that well known in the US.

"I'm not from these parts... I'm from a little place called England. We used to run the world before you," joked Gervais as he collected the award.
