  Thousands out for ROTK premiere

 Rings stars Liv Tyler and Viggo Mortensen
Thousands of UK fans of the Lord of the Rings crowded London's Leicester Square for the premiere of the final film in the trilogy, The Return of the King.

Some had waited for more than 10 hours to see the cast members who were there, athough Orlando Bloom was away filming.

Even though the weather was really bad, it was the biggest crowd ever for a London film premiere.

Fans of the film have now got less than a week to wait to watch the film, which opens on 17 December.

Director Peter Jackson was in London for the premiere, and said he felt "relief and pride but also sadness" the trilogy was over.

"This reception is just amazing. I hear people have been here since five o'clock this morning and that's pretty touching," he added.

Actors Sir Ian McKellan, Viggo Mortensen, Liv Tyler, and hobbits Dominic Monaghan and Sean Astin were all greeted by massive cheers from the crowd.

The film is already being tipped for big success at the 2004 Oscars, after the Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers didn't do well at the last two cermonies.
