ROTK split into two for UK cinema
Updated 04 December 2003, 20.10
Return of the King will have an interval in some cinemas
The final film of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is being shown in two halves by one UK cinema, Warner Village.

A note on their website tells people booking tickets that there is a 15-minute interval during the film.

No other cinemas are doing the same with the Return of the King, which is three hours and 20 minutes long.

A spokesperson told Empire Online: "it's getting on for four hours and that's a long time to ask people to sit without any sort of break."

Some fans are in favour of the plan, because it gives them a chance to go the toilet, while others think that there shouldn't be a break.

They reckon it could spoil the film, and add that if the film is going to be split in two then director Peter Jackson should say so, not a cinema.

The extended editions of the first two films are split in two on DVD, but neither of them had an interval in the cinema.
