Updated 15 October 2003, 19.56
The team show off their new badges
An 11-year-old from Sheffield co-hosted Blue Peter with the show's regular presenters as part of its 45th birthday celebrations on Wednesday.

Ryan Gilpin won a competition to be the guest presenter. In the show he put George the tortoise into hibernation, trampolined and rode a rollercoaster.

A new version of the BBC1 show's badge was launched to tie in with the celebrations, with a snazzy 3D design.

It has been presented to loads of viewers since the show started in 1958.

The badge has also been given to special guests on the show - including the Queen and Hollywood actors Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt.

Ryan said he was really excited to be appearing on the show.

"It is my favourite programme and I can't wait to meet all the presenters," he added before the show went out.
