  Corrie and Enders' awards battle
Updated 13 October 2003, 15.44
Shane Richie could be a big winner
EastEnders and Coronation Street will go head to head at the National Soap Awards later this month.

The two soaps have four nominations each, including best serial drama alongside Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

The awards are the only ones voted for entirely by the viewing public and will be televised on October 28.

The actresses who play Kat Slater in EastEnders and Karen McDonald in Coronation Street are both up for the most popular actress award.

In the most popular actor's category, it's Shane Richie (who plays Alfie Moon) versus the Street serial killer Brian Capron (who plays Richard Hillman).

And newcomers Kate Ford (who plays Tracy Preston in the Street) and Albert Square bad boy Nigel Harman (Dennis Rickman) will face off.

In other categories, Davina McCall, Ant and Dec, Graham Norton or Jonathan Ross could win most popular entertainment presenter.
