JK: 'Book five death made me cry'
Updated 18 June 2003, 00.12
JK Rowling talks to Jeremy Paxman
JK Rowling has talked about how upset she was when she killed off one of her main characters in The Order of the Phoenix.

In a chat with top BBC interviewer Jeremy Paxman from Newsnight, she said writing the death actually made her cry.

Sneak preview clips from the interview to be shown on Thursday night were released online by the BBC on Wednesday.

JK said: "I walked into the kitchen crying and Neil (JK's husband) said to me, 'What on earth is wrong?' and I said, 'Well, I've just killed the person'".

She added she hasn't even told him which character dies in the new Potter book, which hits shops midnight on Friday

JK also reveals she didn't miss the deadline for finishing the book because she didn't actually set a deadline! And she didn't get stuck writing it at all.

The interview with Paxman - who normally quizzes top politicians - is the only one she's doing to promote the much-anticipated book.

You can watch the full interview on BBC Two on Thursday 19 June at 7.30pm.
