  Kids can't live without TV
Updated 09 June 2003, 16.36
Kids watch two-and-a-half hours of TV a day
Most children can't imagine life without TV.

Many said they thought life would be horrid without it and they'd never thought of turning the TV off, a report's shown.

One eight-year-old girl from Birmingham told the researchers: "I would be really angry if I didn't have TV to watch. What would I do?"

Another girl, 11, from London, added: "I wouldn't be able to live without my TV."

EastEnders

The report, called What Children Watch, interviewed lots of kids to find out about their TV tastes. It showed:

  • EastEnders is the fave show
  • Newsround is the most-watched kid's programme
  • Kids spend an average 2 hours, 35 mins watching TV every day
  • Children with digital TV spend another half hour a day
  • EastEnders is the fave programme
One in five kids still watch TV after the 9pm 'watershed', when there's lots of programmes meant for adults

The researchers said they were surprised at just how much TV children watched.

Most kids said their TVs were on at home the whole time - even if no one was watching it.

The report was done by the Broadcasting Standards Commission and the Independent Television Commission.
