And the survey also showed that more people went to watch films in 2002 than in any of the 30 years before it, spending a huge £755m on tickets.

The third Austin Powers movie was the most popular comedy, just in front of Scooby Doo, About A Boy and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

male/female divideHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was the most popular UK film worldwide, earning £439m in the UK alone.

The survey also found out that men and women like different types of films.

It said women like relationship dramas and romantic comedies, while men prefer action films, sci-fi and horror.
