Charlotte's jokes land her TV quiz job
Updated 08 April 2003, 14.43

Charlotte Church
Singing star Charlotte Church has landed a job that relies more on her being funny than hitting the high notes.

She's to host one show of the witty television quiz Have I Got News For You.

The 17-year-old Welsh diva was the youngest ever contestant on the show when she appeared alongside team captain Paul Merton and now will be their youngest presenter.

The bosses of the programme were so impressed by her jokes and sense of fun that they invited her back.

She'll be one of eight new faces - including the former Conservative leader William Hague and the Men Behaving Badly star Martin Clunes to front the show.

The BBC is still searching for a permanent presenter after the last one, Angus Deayton, was sacked last year.

Charlotte wants to be more funky

It's another move away from the world of opera for Charlotte.

She's been singing classical music since she was 13 but has admitted she's had enough and wants to sing more funky tunes.

Charlotte's even making her acting debut in a new film called I'll Be There that comes out in June.

It's a musical comedy about a former 80s pop star who discovers he has a teenage daughter.

But we'll be seeing her first during the new series of Have I Got News For You, which begins on April 24.
