  Will Young backs anti-violence charity
Updated 17 February 2003, 13.00
Will Young will be appearing on Radio One's Sunday Surgery
Pop Idol Will Young has joined a charity which tries to stop violence in the home.

He's going to be an ambassador for Women's Aid - which means he'll stand up in public for the charity and help to raise awareness about what they do.

Women's Aid is a charity for all girls and women who've been beaten in their homes and it raises money to support victims.

'Close to my heart'

Will did a special project at university on violence in the home.

He's even going to be an agony uncle for the day for Radio One's Sunday Surgery. The special programme on domestic violence is being broadcast on 23 February.

"Domestic violence is a subject that is extremely close to my heart," Will said.

"I am proud to put my name beside this cause and hope that I may be able help more women and children affected by the terrors of domestic violence, as well as help to create a wider awareness within our society," he added.

The Radio One show ties in with the BBC's Hitting Home season which focuses on violence in the home this week.

There's a Newsround Extra on this subject on Wednesday 19 February.
