What it was like at the Two Towers premiere
Updated 12 December 2002, 14.45

CBBC Newsround at Leicester Square

It was one of the most hyped nights of the year - and we weren't disappointed!

The stars were out in force in London's West End on Wednesday night for the premiere of one of the biggest films EVER.

Designer outfits

The crowd went wild as Liv Tyler, who plays elfin princess Arwen, arrived looking stunning in a black satin trousersuit.

Cate Blanchett, who stars as the lady Galadriel floated in looking stunning in a top designer outfit and Andy Serkis, who brings Gollum to life, arrived to deafening applause.

It was the first time I had been to a film premiere - and the atmosphere was electric.

Orlando disappointment

Thousands of fans lined the square - many had been there for eight or nine hours and had come from all over the country to catch a glimpse of their favourite character.

Unfortunately, Elijah Wood, who plays the central character - Frodo - in the trilogy couldn't make it - nor could all round heart-throb Orlando Bloom, which left one or two girls a bit upset.

By the time we got into the cinema itself, the atmosphere was buzzing.

Wait over

Inside there were 2,000 people who couldn't wait another minute for the story of Frodo, Sam and the battle between good and evil to pick up where it left off a whole year ago.

But we did have a bit longer to wait, whilst Peter Jackson thanked us all for coming (that was nice wasn't it?!) and introduced us to the actors.

Then it was time to sit back, do a mental re-cap on what went on last time and enjoy the action.

Want to know what it was like? Well, catch our top Press Packer Peter's report on Newsround on Thursday night - or you'll have to wait a whole 8 days - that's 192 hours - to see it for yourselves a week on Friday!
