Updated 11 December 2002, 21.26
Cate Blanchett, Peter Jackson and Live Tyler
Over 4,000 delighted hobbit-fans gathered in London's Leicester Square for the UK premiere of The Two Towers on Wednesday.

Liv Tyler, who plays the elfin Princess Arwen, was among the stars who turned up to greet them and was amazed at the screaming from the fans. But she delighted them all with her magical smile.

Liv was joined by director Peter Jackson as well as hobbits Dominic Monaghan, Sean Astin and Gollum, played by Andy Serkis.

And the beautiful Cate Blanchett, Galadriel, wafted around looking mystical all in white.

Chilly wait

Many had been waiting in the freezing cold since early morning.

Julie, 16, and her three friends had flown from Aberdeen to get a good place in the crowd.

"We're really big fans - I've seen the first film eight times in the cinema and 10 times on DVD!" Julie told CBBC Newsround Online.

Sam and Frodo
At the European premiere in Paris on Tuesday, the stars said the movie deserved to win an Oscar.

Christopher Lee, who plays evil wizard Saruman, said it would bring "shame" on the Oscars if The Two Towers was snubbed like the first film.

Newsround is there at the Two Towers premiere - so come back on Thursday for all the news and a Press Pack review.
