Pullman's three fantastical books - Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass - are set in parallel universes and follow the adventures of Lyra and Will.
Two young actors will play the main heroic characters. Lyra is to be played by Lulu Popplewell and the part of Will is to be read by actor Dan Anthony.
Classic British actor Terence Stamp will star as Lord Asriel and Emma Fielding will play Mrs Coulter.

Pullman said he was really pleased the books were being turned into a radio series.
They are already being made into a stage play in 2004 and there is talk of Northern Lights being made into a film.
The same film company responsible for The Lord of Rings trilogy has already bought the rights to make it.
Who knows, the films could be bigger than Potter!
But for now, you can hear the series when it is broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 4, 11 and 18 January 2003.
