TV's Angus Deayton sacked over scandal
Updated 29 October 2002, 19.40
Angus Deayton hosted Have I Got News For You since 1990
TV presenter Angus Deayton has been asked to quit his top BBC job after bad stories about his private life.

He has fronted the quiz show Have I Got News For You since it started in 1990.

One of the team captains on the programme, Paul Merton, will stand in for Angus this week.

Angus Deayton is also known for playing Victor Meldrew's long-suffering neighbour Patrick, in One Foot in the Grave.

BBC bosses said all the scandalous stories about Angus' personal life in the papers made it inappropriate for him to carry on hosting the primetime show on BBC2.
