A family spokesman said: "He died peacefully at University College Hospital, London, at 7pm today."

Harris starred recently in the two Harry Potter movies, the Philosophers' Stone and the Chamber of Secrets, but for many years he has been known as one Ireland's greatest actors.

Harris was a controversial character during his career and was known for his wild ways but was always an amazing actor.

Earlier this year he fell ill from Hodgkin's Disease and had been receiving chemotherapy sessions to try and help him recover.
