How I became a Harry Potter lookalike!
Updated 01 November 2002, 13.06

While lots of people can claim to be Harry Potter's biggest fan, not everyone can say they look like him.

So just what does it take to become an official Harry Potter lookalike and get signed up to an agency?

Well, it certainly helps you have ruffled brown hair, round glasses and a Hogwarts scarf.

Magic mark

But Neil, who's 11, from Derbyshire can go one better.

"I've even got a scar on my head!" he says. "I got it when I fell off a chair when I was 2 or 3."

Neil became a lookalike after his nan saw an ad in a national magazine.

"I met five other Harry lookalikes when I went up to the magazine thing in London - it was weird meeting people who looked like me!"

Even before that, Neil's classmates at primary school all thought he looked like the young wizard.

"When I was walking to the playground I'd hear people call out 'Eh up Potter!'" says Neil.

"I got my Hogwarts uniform by having a look around the shops. My favourite bit is the scarf my mum made. And I like magic!"

Big prize

Tom, who's 12, from Newbury, won a Harry Potter lookalike competition in the Daily Mail and scooped a 1,000 prize!

"I don't look like Daniel Radcliffe - he looks like me!" says Tom cheekily.

"My teacher kept going on about how I look like Harry Potter. My mum made me a cape and hat and my grandma knitted my Hogwarts scarf."

Then his dad thought it would be a good idea to get Tom signed up with a lookalike agency.

"I'm told I could make up to 250 for an appearance, but I'd do it for cheaper!" says Tom.

Harry's friends

Of course, not all Potter lookalikes have to be Harry.

11-year-old Lucy, from Avon, is signed up with the Lookalikes Ltd agency as Hermione.

"We went to watch the film and my mum and dad thought I looked like Hermione," she says.

"So my dad went on the internet and found out about the agency. We sent photos to Newsround and I won a fancy dress competition at my school."

Lucy hopes there'll be some interesting work coming her way now that Chamber of Secrets is coming out.

"I'm a big fan of Harry Potter, I can't wait 'til the next film!"
