A psychologist called Dr Cynthia McVey said: "In many ways, the Simpsons are a very poor example of family life: discipline, for example, never seems to happen."

She added that Homer and Marge often threaten to ground the kids when they misbehave, but never actually go through with the punishment.

Only one family made the top 10 from a soap, with Eastenders' screaming Slater sisters voted the sixth best family on TV.
