I came face to face with Saruman!
Updated 06 August 2002, 19.58
Christopher Lee who plays Saruman signs DVDs
By Jo Twist at Forbidden Planet
CBBC Newsround Online

My legs were shaking and my hands could hardly keep a grip of my LOTR DVD as I stood in line to get the new release signed by Saruman, chief of all wizards.

I walked nervously towards the massive table decorated with LOTR posters. Behind it sat one of the most scary actors I have ever seen!

Scared!
I was scared!

He had an amazing deep voice and eyes which would send an Orc running scared. But he was also very gentle, kind and patient with the hundreds of fans who were waiting in line too.

"Your hand must be sore with all this signing" I squeaked.

"Well, I am very used to it," he boomed, "it would probably be easier if I could just use my initials."

I nodded and stared. He had amazing silver hair - and didn't look like the 80-year-old-man he is!

Before I could say anything else I was ushered away like all the other fans.

Shaking

The staff at the shop were strict. Fans were only allowed one DVD or video signed and were not allowed to ask any questions.

Outside, people were excitedly chatting about their signed copies.

"It was a bit rushed, but he was really friendly," said one fan.

"It was scary!" said another. "But he said it was really good to see that most of the people here for the signing were young."

Vampire legend

Christopher Lee is one of the most well-known actors in the world and a legend of scary films, playing the role of Dracula from the 1950s to the 1970s.

And he recently played the baddie Count Dooku in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

After meeting him, it's no wonder he makes such a fantastic Saruman. It was one of his ambitions to be in the film and we can't wait to see some more!
