  Saruman launches Rings DVD
Updated 06 August 2002, 18.53
Christopher Lee who plays Saruman signs DVDs
Saruman, chief of all wizards, has helped launched The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring DVD.

Of course it wasn't really Saruman - that would be too scary - but the famous actor who plays him, Christopher Lee.

Hundreds queued for hours outside the Forbidden Planet science fiction shop in London from very early on Tuesday.

Fans were most looking forward to seeing the Two Towers sneak previews on the DVDs. But others couldn't wait to meet Saruman himself!

Sophia, 15, said: "I'm really looking forward to meeting him. He's a really good actor and I've seen him in other sci-fi stuff."

Lots of people are saying the DVD's going to out-sell the Harry Potter one.

Thousands of devoted Rings fans had already pre-ordered the DVD. And it's been number one in some DVD and video charts for nine weeks!

The DVD has an exclusive 10-minute behind-the-scenes preview of the next film, The Two Towers.

Plenty to keep fans happy until 18 December when The Two Towers is released. The third film, Return of the King, is due out in 2003.
