Bloom, who played elf Legolas, wasn't at the awards, but sent a message saying: "I'm flattered, the experience of working on The Lord of The Rings was life-changing. I hope you enjoy the second one."

Ewan McGregor was another British winner, teaming up with Moulin Rouge co-star Nicole Kidman to win the award for best Musical Sequence.

When she accepted the award Kidman joked that they should have practiced their kissing scenes more, because they didn't win that award too.

American Pie 2 actors Seann William Scott and Jason Biggs took that particular honour.

Being MTV there was also some music, with Eminem and Kelly Osbourne both performing, Kelly singing an old Madonna song Pappa Don't Preach.
