Potter fans flock to tourist spots
Updated 08 April 2002, 17.37
Alnwick Castle provided the Quidditch scenery
The number of people visiting Alnwick Castle and Gloucester Cathedral have soared, according to official figures.

And it's all to do with Harry Potter magic!

Stunning

Alnwick Castle was one of the many Philosopher's Stone filming locations used around the UK.

The stunning Quidditch scenes were shot at the castle.

A spokesperson told CBBC Newsround Online that visitor numbers have more than doubled compared to last year.

He added: "What we've seen is a lot more enquiries from families all over the world - from Malaysia, Australia - saying their children are keen to visit because of Harry".

He reckons even though it's still the same old pile of stones as it has always been, there's a new magical feeling to the castle.

Hundreds of children have been choosing to go the castle to take their photo on the same spot Harry stood.

Flocking to Gloucester!

The grand cathedral in Gloucester has also seen loads more eager muggles. It had a starring role in as Hogwarts - you'd probably recognise the spooky cloisters.

Last year, they had a massive 288,906 visitors, that's over 90,000 more than in 2000!

Many of the locations had suffered after the devastation of foot-and-mouth disease.

But now it seems Potter's magic has been working in more ways than one!
