Instead the hardest bit of the film was making the dramatic final scene - the battle of Helm's Deep, he told website scifi.com.

The battle takes place in torrential rain, to add to the tension and excitement.

And it took nine weeks of wet, night filming to shoot the scene.

Orlando, who plays Legolas, told the website: "It was physically very demanding. We were filming it on a quarry, so just the uneven ground was a challenge and it was night."

The Two Towers continues the story of Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship's treacherous journey to destroy the Ring.

The much-anticipated film comes out 18 December.
