Lord of the Rings leads Oscars race
Updated 12 February 2002, 15.06
The Fellowship of the Ring
The Fellowship of the Ring has scooped a massive 13 Oscar nominations, more than any other film this year.

The magical tale of good and evil from the Lord of the Rings trilogy has already won a major award from the American Film Institute.

And it's up for 12 British Bafta awards.

As well as Best Picture, Rings is up for Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Monsters, Inc.

Potter
Harry Potter didn't do so well in the nominations
Drama A Beautiful Mind is nominated for eight Oscars and the Nicole Kidman musical Moulin Rouge has been chosen for seven, with the superstar herself up for Best Actress.

Monsters, Inc., Shrek and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius have all been nominated for Best Animated Film.

But Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone hasn't fared so well; it's only up for a costume award, one for art direction, and one for its music.
