Monsters, Inc. has roared to the top of the UK box office charts, in one of the most successful first weekends ever.
The animated movie from Toy Story experts Pixar made £9.2m over the weekend - the most ever by an animated film.
Only three films - Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and The Phantom Menace - have taken more money on their first weekends of release.
Tipped for an Oscar
The film is expected to be among the favourites to win the first ever Oscar for an animated movie when the nominations are announced on Tuesday.
Shrek is expected to push it closest in the race for a golden statue, but by setting the new record Monsters, Inc. has taken an early advantage.
The previous best opening weekend for an animated movie was also a Pixar effort, with Toy Story 2 bringing in a speedy £7.8m in 2000.
