Despite last minute nerves from presenter Lizzie Greenwood, everything went smoothly.
"I was unbelievably nervous but everything went according to plan," she said.
"It was a real honour to be the first Newsround presenter on the new channel."
Record-breaking fix
There was a moment of panic in the gallery when a vital tape machine broke down just minutes before the programme went on air.
But the day was saved when the faulty machine was swiftly replaced in a record-breaking 35 seconds.
