The success of Harry Potter, Shrek and Monsters, Inc. has helped American cinemas to a record year.
US cinemas sold an estimated £5.7 billion ($8.35 billion) of tickets in 2001, up £0.5 billion (£0.65 billion) from the previous year, which was also a new record.
For the first time five films made sold more than $137m ($200m): Harry Potter, Shrek, Monsters, Inc., Rush Hour 2 and The Mummy Returns. Lord of the Rings is also close to passing the landmark.
And amazingly cinema experts think next year will be even better.

That's because lots of sequels to really successful films are being launched next year.
The huge success of family films like Harry Potter and Shrek is thought to be related to the events of 11 September.
The violence of that terrible day meant many people opted to watch films without violence on their trips to the cinema, and a number of movie bosses changed the release dates of their films if they were violent or were about terrorism.
