But the millions of Potter fans around the world disagree with the Christ Community Church in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and think the books are harmless fantasy stories.
A group of protesters gathered near the fire to say they did not agree with the book burning.
Harry Potter author, JK Rowling, also dismissed the claims.
She said: "I have met thousands of children now, and not even one time has a child come up to me and said, 'Ms Rowling, I'm so glad I've read these books because now I want to be a witch.'"
