  DVD cartoon spreads virus
Updated 02 November 2001, 10.35

A computer virus has been spread for the first time by a DVD.

The virus slipped through onto a disk featuring crime-fighting cartoon trio, the Powerpuff Girls.

All DVD versions of the story featuring Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup have now been recalled from the shops.

Viruses usually spread via e-mail attachments, but sometimes get included on CDs and floppy disks.

Funlove

The virus hiding inside the Powerpuff Girls DVD is known as Funlove.

It doesn't affect DVD players but it can infect a PC, causing it to crash.

The Powerpuff Girls story that's caused the problems is called Meet the Beat Alls.

The DVD has only been sold in the US, but some people may have bought it while on holiday or ordered it online.
