Make stories easier to understand

The CBBC Newsround site has been named best website by the Plain English Campaign.

Students revise a complicated text so that it reads more simply.

Learning aims

  • Revise dictionary use

  • Increase vocabulary

  • Practice making simpler word choices
Introduction
Dinosaur
Before reading through the worksheet version of 'Kids spot errors at dinosaur theme park' with the class, point out that there may be some words they will find difficult.

Ask the class where they would look to find out the meaning of a word.

Provide the class with dictionaries and revise their use by asking them to research the meanings of the words printed in bold.


Main activity
