Whereas the pre-computer generation grew up playing board and card games, most young people now add computer games into their mix of games. From the enormous Space War! of the 1960s through to Pong of the 70s, Space Invaders of the 80s, Sonic the Hedgehog of the 90s and most recently, Pokémon, computer games have become a central part of leisure time.

The industry is now regulated and games are given a rating e.g. 3+, 11-15 and 18+.
