Julie Etchingham on location in Bosnia, reporting on how the charity War Child was using music to rebuild children’s lives.
The programme won a Bafta for best children’s programme and subsequently an international Emmy.
Julie left in 1998 to join Breakfast News. She now presents the Sky News Sunrise programme (also available on Channel 5).
Also in this year, Newsround picked up several international awards for innovative programme graphics - thanks largely to designer Andy Royston O’Connor.
